Levuka Historical Port Town
Levuka Historical Port Town (Levuka Island) – this was once the capital of Fiji (located on the island of Ovalau, just east of Fiji island). Levuka was established by European settlers during the 1820s, and gradually becoming a vital trading port. Those going through Levuka today will spot old colonial buildings, such as the town’s oldest running hotel in the South Pacific (Royal Hotel).
Levuka is a rare display of late 19th century Pacific port settlements, and for this reason, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2013. Luckily for visitors, this means the town will remain as it is forever – providing a lasting example of a part of Fiji’s unique history.
