Kadavu Island

Kadavu Island
Kadavu Island — with an area of 411 sq. kilometers, and located 80 km. south of Fiji island, Kadavu is the fourth largest island in Fiji, and the largest island in the Kadavu Group, a volcanic archipelago consisting of Kadavu, Ono, Galoa and a number of smaller islands in the Great Astrolabe Reef. The general population maintains strong cultural values and leads fairly subsistence lifestyles. Sleepy coastal villages are dwarfed by mountainous jungles covered slopes and waterfalls.
The islands’ deeply indented bays (fringed by coral reefs and mangrove forest) provide habitat to a host of birds including the endemic Kadavu musk parrot. Forest openings reveal lizards basking on rocks, and butterflies spiraling skyward in a lazy dance. This is a good destination for those visitors interested in seeing a part of the Fiji islands that’s off the beaten path.
